It was the early days of 2005, April to be more precise, when then opposition leader Dean Barrow led a nation against the PUP …
In his own words:
“In any case, the U.D.P. will, for its part, begin now a sustained campaign of civil disobedience. I have chosen that word deliberately in contrast to any other that might conjure up the spectre of violence. We are convinced that the objective can be achieved without any resort to violence.”
“I’m not going to call any names, but we have seen on television the–and again I want to chose my words carefully and be as kind and perhaps as euphemistic as possible, the provocative behaviour of certain extremely senior officials of the security forces. That needs to stop. The government is required, I think, to put senior officers in charge of the security situation on the streets who possess a level of maturity, experience, and wisdom in dealing with the process that is ongoing and that is clearly not going to stop.”
“Things are not only not going to return to normal any time soon, but that in fact they are going to escalate.”
I highlighted the above phrases in his call because they are more important today than they were in 2005..
a sustained campaign of civil disobedience […] the process that is ongoing and that is clearly not going to stop. […] Things are not only not going to return to normal any time soon, but that in fact they are going to escalate.
Why are those lines important you ask? Well.. He started the movement for Belizeans to rise up against corruption, tyranny, and a failed Government. He also instructed that it will clearly not stop. And as of this writing, he has not made vocal a call for the termination of the campaign. So Belizeans are only doing what he told them to do and never stop.
This is one picture of the results from the campaign directed by Mr Barrow.
It’s funny how things work themselves out over time.. It was all fine and dandy when it was him at the other end of the stick.. Now the people are rising up to do what he instructed them to do and he calls out his attack dogs… See the following pictures:
Today as we approach the end of 2015, mere weeks into the 3rd term of Dean Barrow now leader of the ruling GOB, a group of concerned citizens chose to practice their right to protest the newly elected Guatemalan president who vows to make Belize a part of Guatemala who was visiting Mr Barrow … in essence a threat to the Sovereignty of Belize and Belizeans, something that Guatemala has been doing for as far back as one can recall and further still.
This should all come as no surprise to anyone as we have talked about this exact thing before, our police and military are being trained to attack citizens practicing their legal rights; see our Pictures of Riot Control Training in Belize article.
