BELIZE TERRITORIAL VOLUNTEERS QUESTIONED BY GUATEMALAN MILITARY, IN BELIZEAN TERRITORY!

Belizeans and true friends of Belize, Following more than a week after this occurrence involving Guatemalan Armed Forces (literally), entering Belizean territory and questioning the intent of the Belize Territorial Volunteers at Sarstoon Island, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has thus far remained ‘mum’. Is such non-action, indicative of a commitment to safeguarding Belize’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, let alone the citizens of this nation? It is high time we take off our proverbial ‘red & blue’ lenses and call a spade, a spade. I invite you to read the attached article and decide. Given that we are ‘celebrating’ Belize’s […]

BELIZE NEEDS TO BE SAVED FROM WILFRED “SEDI” ELRINGTON 1

by Eamon H. Courtenay Dear Editor, On the Channel 5 newscast for February 11, 2012, Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Attorney General, gave an interview in which he once again acted completely contrary to the national interests of Belize. Mr. Elrington said: “But because the land border is already defined and the southern border is already defined, I am confident that nothing untoward can happen with respect to those two. The only place I think there is room for some surprise would have to be in the sea area or perhaps in the insular area, because those […]

Carolyn Trench Sandiford on Belize – Guatemala – ICJ 1

3 Reasons Why I will vote NO TO THE ICJ… Belize is a sovereign and independent nation and country with its boundaries defined by possession and its constitution. For generations, Guatemala has inculcated in the psychic of its people and by action that by right Belize is a part of Guatemala. The recent fiasco at the OAS meeting in Washington with Guatemala blatantly displaying a map of Guatemala including Belize is a testament to this. TIME AND CONSEQUENCE HAVE NOT CHANGED THIS. Neither will any decision of the ICJ change this unless such decision gives Guatemala what they perceive is […]

Hon. Julius Espat on Belize – Guatemala – ICJ 7

I have looked at the two sides of the issue when it pertains to Belize and the ICJ, and I am convinced that the risk of loosing any part of our territory is too much to take. We have already gone through the difficult process of obtaining our Independence with our territory defined. This was unanimously agreed to by the vast majority of nations of the world. We cannot ignore this great achievement by our forefathers. Let the United Nations seek an opinion from the ICJ on our behalf, but not a judgement. – Julius Espat A strong stand on […]
