Belize’s Failure: U.S. Proxy or Corrupt Leadership?

By: Hubert Pipersburgh on September 29, 2011 As a peripheral economy it is difficult for countries such as Belize. The U.S. cast a huge shadow. Few leaders in the region have been able to plot an autonomous course.  The late Michael Manley of Jamaica with his non-aligned movement during the cold war tried, Belize was a member of that group under the Premiership of George Cadle Price. With the exception of Cuba, Grenada under the Late Maurice Bishop and his New Jewel Movement attempted a course that did not rely on the U.S. patronage he was promptly assassinated in cold blood […]

Guatemala news posts video of BTV visit

In the video posted by media house Canal Antigua from Guatemala, they claim that the entire Sarstoon river, including the Sarstoon Island is in Guatemalan territory despite international knowledge and records reveals a clearly demarcated border showing otherwise. As the above image shows, the Island is clearly within Belizean territory. In the video below, it is clear that at least one of the Guatemalan boats pulled right up to the boat with Belizeans and tried to push them into Guatemalan territory (at about 2:35) as was told by members of the BTV crew. All this while the OAS representatives sat […]

Melvin Hulse Speaks

This week has been a really exciting one in Belize. A few months ago we got the Briceno leaked tape on PUP corruption and such that was super hot and everyone was sharing it like it was free candy at a festival for children. Anywho, this week we got a leaked recording of UDP Minister Melvin Hulse throwing out some serious allegations against his party and the PM of Belize who has taken offense to the allegations and threatened anyone that helped stain his name; this after his entire gang of misfits used allegations from the Briceno tape in the […]

Want to know the future of Belize? See Greece

Pay attention to what’s happening in Greece. We’ve posted about this before and things di geh dread as we say in Belize. Greece is slowly being led to slaughter house and Belize is going to the same place, Greece is at the door, Belize is making it’s way down the chute. Greece’s economy will be locked down with capital controls if it can’t find a deal by the weekend European governments are ready to push for capital controls in Greece would mean a severe lockdown on flows of cash … strict limits on the amount that could be withdrawn from […]

The Belize-Guatemala Conundrum

By Nick Pollard Jr. Spain and Great Britain left behind in Central America an unresolved Boundary Dispute between Guatemala and Belize for which there is absolutely no sign of a settlement almost 150 years later after various negotiations have failed even with the immediate arbitration of the O.A.S. Will the dispute be settled in the unforeseeable future by the ICJ or will the Security Council of the United Nations be forced to intervene? Thursday, 9 May 2013 GUATEMALA CANNOT BE TRUSTED IN FUTURE NEGOTIATIONS TO SETTLE THE OLD ANGLO-GUATEMALAN BORDER DISPUTE. Surprisingly, many Belizeans were not taken aback by Guatemala’s […]

Guatemala Warship in Belizean Territory

Not sure if others are blind to this and why the international governing bodies are not taking action. Maybe our politicians and those that are in place to do so still can’t grow a pair to demand that action be taken against the aggressive behavior against Belize and Belizeans. Recently there have been cases where Guatemalans illegally enter Belizean territory and squat right in the Adjacency Zone under the nose of the OAS. There is the case of Danny Conorquie that was shot at the Caracol Maya site in broad day light. Then we have the case of the Belize […]

The failures of Gang Prevention

This is an interesting report, seeing that Belize is trying to suppress gang activity and so far have been failing miserably at it. I have spoken on this before in discussions noting that the plans rolled out have done nothing more than quite things down for a short period only to make gang activity and crime return with more vengeance. Please take the time to read this report as it is vital to our strategic planning going forward, I will highlight the main points and link to the full report at the bottom of the page; hope the Government of […]

The Conflict of Interest Regime in Belize

The Belizean Attorney General’s Ministry and the OAS signed an MOU to develop the National Plan of Action Against Corruption in June of 2007.
