Guatemala news posts video of BTV visit

In the video posted by media house Canal Antigua from Guatemala, they claim that the entire Sarstoon river, including the Sarstoon Island is in Guatemalan territory despite international knowledge and records reveals a clearly demarcated border showing otherwise. As the above image shows, the Island is clearly within Belizean territory. In the video below, it is clear that at least one of the Guatemalan boats pulled right up to the boat with Belizeans and tried to push them into Guatemalan territory (at about 2:35) as was told by members of the BTV crew. All this while the OAS representatives sat […]

Guatemala Military engages BTV at Sarstoon Island

The BTV (Belize Territorial Volunteers) make their trip to the Southern parts of Belize every year, and this year they decided to visit the Sarstoon Island that is well within Belizean territory. Guatemala however with it’s always on aggression mode, not only came into Belizean waters but assaulted Belizeans by blocking their passage and attempted ram and push boats into Guatemalan territory to engage even more. I am hearing words also that the Guatemalan military was apparently giving guided tours on the Island, what kind of shit is that? All this in front of the OAS observers, let’s see what […]

Belize: Are We in a State of Insecurity or are We an Insecure State?

Belizeans and true friends of Belize, Following a series of recent, unfortunate occurrences in our beloved nation, I am compelled to put for the above-listed query. Where do I begin? As in all things, I guess it is best to lay the foundation and then build from there. To those who have kept tabs on what appears that only a few seem to recognise as Belize’s greatest existential threat, the nation of Guatemala’s unfounded claim to our sovereign territory, the first portion of my contribution will come as no surprise. In essence, successive administrations have taken a submissive and minimalist […]

Belize is at war and doesn't know it

While stumbling online I ran across this article by one of Belize’s top photographers and thought it is too important not to share. I fully agree with Tony here, we are fighting a silent and invisible war that most of us don’t know is happening. I was speaking to one of the military personnel recently and he was telling me about this exact issue. I find it horribly disgraceful that Guatemalans can come into Belize and do as they please, when our military does their jobs in defending our nation and either capture or kill these armed invaders they get […]

Benque Free Zone update

This update was sent in by an eye witness. Western Border update: 31-3-14 @1:30PM Game of cat and mouse, while Guatemalan security forces went for lunch, time to work fast! 🙂 Despite the gun fire and confiscation of goods by security forces earlier, see pics inside SAT office, the trafficking of contraband of illicit goods continue flowing from the Benque Viejo Free Zone, using under aged youths to carry in the goods through the contraband trails into Guatemala. The logic they run faster and the Guatemalan authorities will not arrest minors; See attached pictures of youths going up the trail, […]
