The one with Guatemala and the Belizean SS

It was the early days of 2005, April to be more precise, when then opposition leader Dean Barrow led a nation against the PUP … In his own words: “In any case, the U.D.P. will, for its part, begin now a sustained campaign of civil disobedience. I have chosen that word deliberately in contrast to any other that might conjure up the spectre of violence. We are convinced that the objective can be achieved without any resort to violence.” “I’m not going to call any names, but we have seen on television the–and again I want to chose my words […]

Guatemala news posts video of BTV visit

In the video posted by media house Canal Antigua from Guatemala, they claim that the entire Sarstoon river, including the Sarstoon Island is in Guatemalan territory despite international knowledge and records reveals a clearly demarcated border showing otherwise. As the above image shows, the Island is clearly within Belizean territory. In the video below, it is clear that at least one of the Guatemalan boats pulled right up to the boat with Belizeans and tried to push them into Guatemalan territory (at about 2:35) as was told by members of the BTV crew. All this while the OAS representatives sat […]

Pictures of Riot Control Training in Belize

It’s not that the U.S. military trains for this, which is necessary and recommendable. It’s not that they seem to enjoy it so much, which is stupidly understandable. It’s that they are often being trained to detain and dispel rioters that are engaging in legally protected activities. Some of the situations include environmental protesters holding signs that say “Save the Halibut” and “Stop the Violence”, as well as antiwar protesters holding signs with peace symbols and “No more war” written on them. The following set of pictures from a training exercise for the military of Belize shows protesters holding signs […]

Loyola Academy Founding Principal Tom Nolan has been volunteering at St. Martin’s for about two years. Now retired, he and a handful of other volunteers started a counseling center at the school, which is […]

Belizean Company aiming for Tanzania Gold

First off let me say that with the recent “get rich quick” schemes that have been popping up around Belize, this one smells like one of them from the start. I may be wrong but. Kilimanjaro Capital (KIMJF), a “new breed” natural resource company based in Belize, is looking to acquire an interest in Tanzanian gold assets controlled by Sika Resources Inc., a Canadian company. In a press release issued Friday morning, Kilimanjaro Capital announced an agreement in principle had been made with Sika Resources “to acquire an interest in world class gold assets in Tanzania.” Tanzania is the third […]

IDB Report on Citizen Security in Belize

The following is a report published by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) dated October 2013. It discusses the lack of citizen security, the ever increasing crime rate, lack of resources to combat it and the underlying aspects that are causing this growth, things I have touched time and again in many discussions like Education, Poverty, failure of our justice system not only in practice but to your citizens in the penitentiary system. Without further adieu, here is the report, and may I say that things have gotten and only keep getting worst. Abstract In the face of rising crime rates […]
