Charles Leslie, Jr., PNP’s candidate for Stann Creek West
Born in Placencia Village on 6 November 1980. Charles attended St. John’s Anglican Primary School in Placencia, Independence High School in Independence Village, and Ecumenical Junior College in Dangriga, where he majored in accounting, business management and economics.
Charles is the current Chairman of the Placencia Village Council. In addition, Charles and his wife, Ycela Alpuche, own and operate Leslie Tech, a computer services company, and Charly’s Gifts, a specialty gift shop named after their 2-year-old daughter, Charlyce. Charles is the son of Charles Leslie, Sr., an internationally renowned fly fishing guide from Placencia, and Charles also works with his dad in operating Tarpon Caye Lodge, a small family-owned fishing lodge off the Placencia coast. Charles’ mother, Mara Mayen, is from the Stann Creek Valley and is of Mayan decent.
As Placencia Village Council Chairman, Charles raised over $30,000 to invest in Placencia’s sports complex, developed commercial space to provide the Village Council with income to carry out social programs for the Village, finalized the Placencia Village Council By-Laws for formal submission to the national legislature, procured the donation of a special building for Placencia’s tourism police, established free public parking in the Village to alleviate traffic congestion, oversaw the completion of Phases I and II of a storm drainage system in Placencia with investments of over $25,000, and spearheaded the Village’s participation in Peninsula 2020, a blueprint for the development of the Placencia Peninsula for the next 10 years. Charles is also working closely with local organizations to place the Placencia Lagoon into reserve status to preserve the area’s fish stocks and storm protection for the Peninsula that is provided by the Lagoon’s mangroves.
Charles enjoys reading, traveling, writing and sports, and is an ardent supporter of Placencia’s football, baseball and cricket teams.
