The Ministry of Defense “rethinks” of mobilizing army special forces in Petén – kaibiles-, specifically to areas close to the line of adjacency with Belize, after military bullet injured a Guatemalan, a fact which is attached to a long history of incidents in that area.

The Minister of Defense, Ulises Anzueto, explained that the attack took place early just last week, in Río Blanco, “near of Tikalito”, of the Guatemalan side, flowers Chiquibul, Dolores, Petén.
“Unfortunately, a Guatemalan citizen who was in the adjacency zone had an incident with Belize Defense Forces, with a patrol, and we are a wounded Guatemalan who was on the Belizean side and evacuated to the hospital of the Cay”, said the official.
Anzueto explained that the device of special forces, before June 30, will be “returning” to the Brigade of Poptún, Petén, to help provide security in the sector.
Funds to friendly countries gave to the Organization of American States (OAS) to fund an educational campaign in Guatemala and Belize – US$ 2.5 million, about – were frozen, following the decision of the two countries not to make this year the popular consultation to take the dispute to the International Court of Justice, told local media the Belizean Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington.
Almost each year occur incidents with Belizean forces.

The PDH has constant abuse reports to Guatemalans.
