Belize’s Healthcare system has come under keen scrutiny recently in regards to the thirteen newborn deaths which occurred in the neonatal intensive care unit of the KHMH in the month of May. Tonight we have another “parent nightmare” involving a newborn baby, this time at the Western Regional Hospital. It’s hard enough having lost a baby but when the hospital misplaces the body, well that’s insult to injury. This is the ordeal a first time mother and father had to come to terms with this past weekend.
First of all, my daughter and my son-in-law went into the hospital, here at the Belmopan Western Regional Hospital, because my daughter was due date on the 13th. So her along with her husband went into the hospital to check out around six o’clock because she had been experiencing some pain. Unfortunately the nurse only checked her and sent her back home. About 11 o’clock she came back because she had more pain. When she came back the doctor told her that the baby had no heart beat.
The Grandfather of the child says that he believes the child died due to negligence by the Western Regional Hospital as the maternal card had notes already about mother and child which noted the pregnancy as high risk.
