Have the people reach that critical mass?
The communities in the Western region of Belize( Cayo district) have called for a day of protest against growing violence and crime in that part of the country. This mass protest is also against an archaic judicial system that is in need of urgent and critical reform.
Public Safety(euphemism for crime) is seriously compromise in Belize. In fact, our entire system of governance and jurisprudence is inadequate starting with the constitution that is front and center of our ability to properly develop as a nation state.
This bogus carbon copy document given by the British to all former colonies have failed us.
This one size fits all document is a mockery and an abstraction to defeat for our goals and aspirations as a people. It still recognizes the Queen of England as defacto head of state and a Governor General acting in her steed.[pullquote align=”right”]I stand shoulder to shoulder with those that dare to challenge the validity of the status quo and the accompanying citadel of privilege.

It’s an affront to any citizen of Belize that considers our nation an independent state. We must fashion a new document that is written by the people for the people. A document that fully encourages the participation of all the people.
For many who continues to present the argument that this document is appropriate to lead us in this new millennium and shifts blame to the victims it disparages. I offer the state of our nation today as irrefutable evidence that it is a complete failure. I need not burden you with data that suggest this is so. Anyone who have honestly look comprehensively at Belize knows this to be true.
I am a revolutionary by inclination and philosophy. Perhaps, I am also an idealist who is naive. This mass protest called for by the residents of the Cayo District may very well be a start to the people movement that many of us argued is vital to any liberation struggle.
It can also be the model for mass protest all over the country. The people may have reached that critical mass needed for dramatic change. Today Cayo is leading the way as people there have made a conscious decision that they will no longer going to be willing accomplices to their own marginalization and ultimate demise.
As a patriot and nationalist I stand in solidarity with this mass movement that is trying to take back Belize from the sinister forces plotting and scheming to keep us as a permanently under -develop
peripheral economy forever scratching on the edge for relevance.
I stand shoulder to shoulder with those that dare to challenge the validity of the status quo and the accompanying citadel of privilege. To be continued….
