May 4, 2016 The Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, met today with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belize and Guatemala in reference to the recent incidents in the Belize-Guatemala Adjacency Zone and the Sarstoon River. To this end, Secretary Almagro confirmed the imminent deployment of a group of experts to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances which resulted in the death of a Guatemala minor, following an incident with the Belizean security forces in the Adjacency Zone. Recalling Annex C of the Confidence Building Measures in force on the Guidelines for Public Statements, […]

Not even the US trusts the decisions of the ICJ

Belize is being shoved to go to the ICJ by the US OAS branch but when they had to get a ruling at the ICJ they basically said, “Oh hell no, this court is bullshit.” The United States and the ICJ The United States has long had an uneasy relationship with the International Court of Justice, which primarily arbitrates legal disputes among UN member nations that recognize its jurisdiction. The United States withdrew from the court’s compulsory jurisdiction in 1986 after the court ruled it owed Nicaragua war reparations. The United States also disagreed with the court’s stance that it […]

Now the Sarstoon has become Guatemala’s 2

by Thérèse Belisle Nweke … A Belizean in Nigeria on the Annexation of the Sarstoon ” All your friends are false; all your enemies are real” – Mexican proverb The subterfuge, excuses and unimpressive attempts to conceal the truth have ended. The Sarstoon is no longer Belize’s, but is now a part of the Republic of Guatemala. This, the redoubtable Wil Maheia recently proved when as head of the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV), he and 19 other Belizeans were arbitrarily prevented by armed Guatemalan military personnel from entering the Sarstoon river, on their way to the Gracias a Dios border […]

The deafening noise of the Police and Judiciary sytem in Belize

There is a large community of Immigrants in Belize and many have given and keep giving lots to Belize. There has been case after case of crime against visitors and immigrants in Belize with nothing much to nothing at all done by the Police or the Judiciary; all while the embassies of their home nation sit by quietly twiddling their thumbs. I know it’s bad enough that the Government of Belize refuses to invest the money to empower our Belize Police Department and to allow the Judiciary to be independent of political games and abuse; but wrong is wrong no […]

Integrating the Caribbean and Central America

In continuing with what I’ve been talking about for several years now as to how things are being integrated into districts and all that. Earlier posts talk about the over all picture, others talk about the regional CARICOM and SICA stuff and some other angle. This one speaks more into that. Time to wake up Belizeans. THE TIME TO SAVE YOUR COUNTRY IS BEFORE YOU LOSE IT! – Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson This was originally posted on Caribbean Journal By Alberto Duran and Noemi Areli Sanchez The Central American Integration System (SICA) was formed in 1991 and is a regional […]

The one with Guatemala and the Belizean SS

It was the early days of 2005, April to be more precise, when then opposition leader Dean Barrow led a nation against the PUP … In his own words: “In any case, the U.D.P. will, for its part, begin now a sustained campaign of civil disobedience. I have chosen that word deliberately in contrast to any other that might conjure up the spectre of violence. We are convinced that the objective can be achieved without any resort to violence.” “I’m not going to call any names, but we have seen on television the–and again I want to chose my words […]

Guatemala news posts video of BTV visit

In the video posted by media house Canal Antigua from Guatemala, they claim that the entire Sarstoon river, including the Sarstoon Island is in Guatemalan territory despite international knowledge and records reveals a clearly demarcated border showing otherwise. As the above image shows, the Island is clearly within Belizean territory. In the video below, it is clear that at least one of the Guatemalan boats pulled right up to the boat with Belizeans and tried to push them into Guatemalan territory (at about 2:35) as was told by members of the BTV crew. All this while the OAS representatives sat […]

Pay attention to what’s happening in Greece. We’ve posted about this before and things di geh dread as we say in Belize. Greece is slowly being led to slaughter house and Belize is going to the same place, Greece is at the door, Belize is making it’s way down the chute. Greece’s economy will be locked down with capital controls if it can’t find a deal by the weekend European governments are ready to push for capital controls in Greece would mean a severe lockdown on flows of cash … strict limits on the amount that could be withdrawn from […]
