One of the biggest mistakes Belizeans made over the past two decades was to vote and keep voting for gabblers and not thinkers. They still have not realize that the shallow and superficial are generally great orators who often pass for being eloquent because of such.
Today, to the masses, a great watchword or catchword is more effective than logic.
Because of the ignorance and apathy that has befallen our country, we have given Central Government the tacit permission to centralize its power matrix.
We have given up and continue to give up every function of our being to the guardianship of the State. Today, to clean in front of our own properties require a written order from the Central power. This concept can be applied to all aspects of our Social complex, such as crime. We do not like crime to befall us or our loved ones but do nothing to be a part of the solution. Initially, due to factors such as family relations and personal gain, and now, it has advanced and is coupled with fear and apathy.
We have and continue to nurture imbecility and mediocrity. Our government is advancing its social destruct in feeding parts of the people thus concurrently preparing all of us to be slaves – we are now slaves to the criminal element. Hardworking, honest Belizeans now have to work even harder to pay more taxes, higher cost of living across the board, while our tax money support criminal elements who seem to have direct access to the highest Government offices in this country.
A free people who wants a free government – a free country – should not only concern ourselves with making laws, but also play a role in executing them. We all must be ready to obey and administer the law that has been written to protect all of our liberties, rights, freedoms etc. And government needs to be reminded that it’s business is carried on for the benefit of all, and we all must actively participate and cooperate.
In free states as well as despotic states, never forget, injustice, who walk happily hand in hand with oppression, has always been known to bring to fruition deceit, distrust, hate, conspiracy, treason, and unfaithfulness.
In this country, those who claims to be great men, if you cannot win office without using pathetic tactics such as buying votes, sneaking lies, empty promises; you should go hide in a hole.
The people need to remind and warn all those in office, especially those who holds the highest offices, that when you present yourself for service, that indeed you have a right to aspire to the highest office of the land, if you can show that you are fitter than the rest aspiring for the same post. Merit will justify your entrance through the door.
However, If you attain such high post, especially if by unfair, disreputable and indecent means, and you are found to be an utter failure, like so many that sit in high offices in Belize today, you should be drawn and quartered, because you are the worst among public enemies.
REMEMBER: We cannot ask for protection, for equality , for liberty if it is not by each for ALL.
So, what now? You may ask. What do we do? We need to all remember where we came from, and that is a nation made up of communities. communities where we had true, meaningful family values. Communities which are made up of men, women and children, who form the family unit, which was sacred; which forms the community, one family and a time; a community, each forming the State. Community is the foundation of the State.
Here is what we need to do in my humble opinion, after years of reading, research, observation, personal experience – What we need to do to rebuild our Communities from the ground up, is to:
- Turn off your t.v.
- Leave your house
- Know your neighbors
- Greet people
- Look up when you’re walking
- Sit on your stoop
- Plant flowers
- Use your library
- Play together
- Buy from Local merchants
- Share what you have
- Help a lost dog
- Take children to the park
- Honor elders
- Support the schools
- Fix it even if you didn’t break it
- Have pot lucks
- Garden together
- Pick up litter
- Read stories aloud
- Dance in the street
- Talk to the mail carrier
- Listen to the birds
- Put up a swing
- Help carry something heavy
- Barter for your goods
- Start a tradition
- Ask a question
- Hire young people for odd jobs
- Organize a block party
- Bake extra and share
- Ask for shades
- Sing together
- Share your skills
- Take back the night
- Turn up the music – turn down the music
- Mediate a conflict
- Seek to understand
- Learn from new and uncomfortable angles
- Know that no one is silent, though many are not heard. Work to change this.
- the promotion of mind control (we must teach our children how to think, not what to think)
- self-destruction
- materialism
- superficiality
- dumbing down of society
- the sexualization of everything especially our children
- a corrupted and debased type of spirituality
- The demeaning of religions
Our young people are being pushed to live pointless, self-destructive lives based on the gratification of their lowest impulses.
Indulging in one’s animalistic instincts has always been considered to be the opposite of reaching spiritual enlightenment.
We need to remember how precious life is: it takes 9 months for a woman to create life. It takes less than a second for a bullet to take it away. To change the world you have to do it slowly, if you want to change it for good. And before you can change the world you have to change yourself, your attitude.
Never think that you have to do something grand to make a positive difference, do what you can. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “When I do bad, I feel bad. When I do good, I feel good. That is my religion.”
Now I will digress and go back to the real world and do the best I can to be a great father, a great husband, a great son, a great citizen, a great human being. Because every single action I take not only affects me, but everyone around me and it spreads, like a stone thrown in a pond.
Liberty. Equality. Fraternity. Sagacity. Light. Love. The Law Of One.
(disclaimer: These are my thoughts only. Which are derived from many hours, days, months, years of reading, personal observation, personal experience, talking to people, living in the world. I do not call for violence, however I implore an evolution of thinking, of caring, of compassion. Do not agree with what I say; do your own homework, make your own personal observations, learn from your own personal experience, but always remember, the world is what we make it, each and every single individual on this little blue speck. If we feed the negative, that will become dominant in our lives, if we feed the positive that will become dominant in our lives.)
