On Monday June fourth, robbers armed with high powered rifles stormed the Toledo Teachers Credit Union.  While having their weapons pointed at the credit union employees, they raided the facility of thirty four thousand dollars and then escaped in the credit union’s Hilux. But the suspects were soon caught and have been identified as: twenty-nine year old PC Oswald Young of Unitedville and twenty-six year old P.C. Sachario Cuz of San Marcos Village in Toledo. The officers were busted along with thirty-one year old B.D.F. Corporal, Romel Elijio of Sunflower Street. The two constables were attached to the Patrol Branch in Belize City. News Five spoke to Elodio Aragon Junior, Assistant Commissioner of Police about the rogue elements in his ranks.

“Regarding the two police officers attached to the patrol branch, Eastern Division, does it affect the morale? What have you been briefed on the situation so far?”

Elodio Aragon Jr., Assistant Commissioner of Police

“Well I haven’t gotten a detailed brief on that. I just know of what has taken place. But I want the public to know one thing; the police department is a big organization. We have rogue elements and we are dealing with them. The police department will not stand for police officers who engage in criminal acts. I want the public to know that the police department has good men and women everyday who work the streets of this country, who have integrity, who are honest and hardworking. And I want the public to know that we are dealing with these police officers who engage in criminal acts to weed them out of the system. But we always need the help of the community to bring that information to us and to assist us in that process. But definitely the police department is working hard to address the situation in the City.”

Young, Cruz and Elijio were busted along with twenty six year old Bernard “Hijo” Linarez, who is a member of the national football team.  They were found in an Isuzu Trooper being driven by forty-two year old taxi operator, Nelson Bardalez.
